Ed Rynders, 62, a resident of St Simons Island and formerly of Albany, Georgia passed away peacefully in his home after a short illness. He entered heaven’s gates after a rich life and his family is proud to share his legacy and true zest for life and his community.
Ed will be missed by many. He was born on Johnson’s Air Force Base in Japan and grew up in Albany, Georgia. After attending the University of Georgia, running a personal care home, and a career as a larger-than-life radio and TV personality, he represented his hometown of Albany, Georgia and the surrounding counties in the state legislature for 17 years. During his career as a state representative, he served as a delegate for Georgia to 4 National GOP conventions, and was the chair of the House Governmental Affairs Committee, Secretary of the Appropriations Committee, and Secretary of the Health and Human Services Committee and numerous other committees. Ed was staunchly loyal and passionate to the citizens and communities of rural South Georgia and secured critical resources, funding, and infrastructure that made the community that was his home for his entire life better for all.
In addition to his body of work as a public servant, Ed made friends everywhere he went and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of baseball, college football, music, and trivia with everyone he met. He was a little league baseball coach, a fisherman, and a Christian. His friends and family will best remember him as a skilled conversationalist, jack of all trades, comedian, and a man who knew so much about nothing.
Ed was most proud of his family. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Jane; 3 children Megan (Andrew), Matt, and Brooks; 1 grandson Andrew; 2 sisters Jeanie and Denise; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and granddaughter.
A celebration of life will be held at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11am with Reverend Tom Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 am until 11 am at the funeral home. The family requests that guests who attend the service dress in casual attire that represents Ed’s passion for college football and living life to the fullest with friends and family.
The family wants to share their sincere appreciation to Hospice of the Golden Isles and requests that any contributions be made to this incredible organization in his memory.
