Benny was born in Jesup to parents George and Lillie Mae Flowers Drury. After school, he went to work as a timber harvester for Union Camp and successfully ran his own well drilling business on the side, formally retiring from both in 1987. Benny loved coon hunting and fly-fishing and was a member of several area hunting clubs. He also enjoyed painting in his spare time.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Muriel Drury; two sisters, Nadine Rooks and Geneva Taylor; two brothers, Lamar Drury (and his wife, Joyce) and Sonny Drury; mother and father in law, Walter and Janie Kersey; five sisters in law, Sandy Drury, Betty Britton, Sybil Young, Leona Lynn and Penny Sue Elliott and three brothers in law, Walter Tobby Kersey, Johnny B. Kersey and Troy Lyons.
Benny is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Juanita Kersey Drury; a son, Charles Benny Drury, Jr. and his wife, Anna Elaina of Atkinson; two granddaughters, Ansley Grace Turner and Amelia Elizabeth Drury, also of Atkinson; two brothers, Cecil Drury (June) of Odum and Jimmy Drury of Waynesville; two sisters, Marie Drury (Winston) of Harriet’s Bluff and Patsy Moody of Blackshear; two sisters in law, Hazel Drury of Jesup and Teeai Crosby of Waynesville; three brothers in law, Noah “Bo” Kersey (Libby) of Brunswick, Rochelle “Rocky” Kersey (Lisa) of Atkinson and Matthew “Shorty” Lyons of Offerman. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 14th at 10:00 am at Mount Olive Cemetery in Brantley County. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Drury, Robby Drury, Chuck Kersey, Rocky Kersey and Skylar Kersey.
