On January 23, 2021, Bobby Wayne Huggins lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. Bob was born on January 6, 1939 to Cleo Bell Huggins and Lee Roy Huggins and raised in Denton, Texas. He graduated from the University of North Texas where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity serving as President his senior year.
Upon graduation, Bob was accepted into Naval flight training in Pensacola, Fl. He completed five years active duty in the Navy and 15 years in the Naval Reserve retiring as a Commander. After Bob completed his active duty, he began his airline career with National Airlines in Miami FL. He would go on to fly with Pan American World Airways and Delta Airlines when he retired in 1999.
During his flight training in Coronado, CA, Bob met a young lady from St Simons Island—Billie McWilliams. On November 2, 1963, Bob and Billie were married at Christ Episcopal Church on Coronado.
Bob and Billie lived in Hollywood, FL for twenty-five years where they raised two sons—Michael Wayne (Maria) and John David. While they enjoyed many good times with good friends in Florida, they spend his last five Delta years in Salt Lake City. Bob and Billie lived and skied in nearby Park City for 11 years (6 years after retirement).
Besides his two sons, Bob is survived by two wonderful grandchildren—Matthew Alexander Huggins and Amilia Isabella Huggins, and sister Betty Ortez of Denton, Texas.
In 2005, Bob and Billie returned to Billie's home on St Simons Island, Georgia. In retirement, Bob competed in triathlons, volunteered as a tax consultant for senior citizens, and became a Wednesday-Lunch-Group regular.
The family gives special thanks to the staff at Hospice of the Golden Isles for their care and commitment during his final days.
There will be a graveside service for the family at Christ Church Frederica on Saturday, January 30th.
