Ben H. Cox, Sr., 79, of Cresent, GA passed away Sunday, December 19, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Canton, GA on December 18, 1931 to the late Benjamin Claude Cox and the late Lunnie Eaton Cox.
He belonged to the Masonic Lodge #309 in Toccoa, GA the past 50 years and was a member of the Royal Arch and Commandery. He was also a member of the Alee Temple in Savannah, GA. Ben was a member and former Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Darien. He was the owner of Ben’s Seafood for 30 years. Ben possessed an entrepreneurial spirit that extended to many areas of life and led to many adventures. Ben was a loving husband and father who took great pride in his family. His joys included cars, football and flying.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Claudine “Penny” Yarbrough.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sharlene “Peggy” Cox; two daughters, Linda C. Bowers (husband Terry) of Toccoa, GA and Peggy Sue C. Licavoli (husband Chris) of Savannah, GA; two sons, Ben “Chip” Cox, Jr. (wife Daphne) of Valona, GA and Edgar “Charlie Brown” Cox (wife Tammy) of Crescent, GA; a sister, Evelyn Cox Tribble of Cummings, GA; 9 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Darien, GA with Pastor Danny Grace officiating. Interment will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery in Darien, GA with Masonic Rites. Active pallbearers will be Jack Amason, Larry Delaney, David Stevens, David Pilgrim, Frank Williams III, and Howard Hart. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of the First Presbyterian Church of Darien.
The family will receive friends at their home on Riverside Drive, Cedar Point in Crescent, GA from 3 to 7 pm Tuesday, December 21, 2010.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Darien Building Fund at PO Box 706 Darien, GA 31305 or to the Alee Shrine Temple at PO Box 14147 Savannah, GA 31416.
