Barbara was born August 16, 1929 in Claremont, New Hampshire the daughter of the late John Hollenbach and the late Eleanor Johnson Hollenbach. She was also preceded in death by her late husband William “Babe” Joseph Halambeck; two sisters, Ollie Clady and Helen Macmillan; and one niece, Shelia Macmillan.
Barbara resided in Vermont during her childhood years. Later she moved to Ohio where she worked as a secretary for Arthur Anderson CPA’s. She met her late husband “Babe” at his restaurant in Cleveland. They resided in Rocky River, Ohio before they moved to Saint Simons Island in 1979. Barbara became a member of the Sea Palms Ladies Golf League and enjoyed the sport for many years. She always enjoyed the lifestyle and the enduring friendships that the island offered.
Left to cherish Barbara’s memories are her two daughters, Debra Girman (Edward) of Saint Simons Island, GA and Linnea Hille of Bay Village, OH; four grandchildren, Clint Kaptur (Nicole) of Bay Village, OH, Michelle Dennis (Scott) of Fort Myers, FL, Allison Fillmore (Scott) of Atlanta, GA, and Alan Thomas of Fort Lauderdale, FL; three nieces, Gail Sammond (John) of Orange Park, FL, Cheryl Clady of Jacksonville, FL, and Barbara Martin of Apopka, FL; three nephews, Bruce Macmillan of Saipan, MP, John Macmillan and Richard Macmillan both of Longwood, FL. Five great grandchildren also survive.
Barbara will always be remembered for her infectious smile. She loved to travel and was an avid animal lover. She had a devoted cat named Harpo that she also loved dearly. She also enjoyed playing golf and socializing. Barbara will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
A Celebration of Life Gathering to honor her life will be held Friday, March 15, 2019 between 4 – 5:30 PM at Thrive at Frederica on Saint Simons Island.
