Robert Lanaghan Jr., lovingly known as Bob, passed away on June 24, 2023, in Brownsville, Texas. He is preceded in death by his nephew Shawn Lanaghan and his sister in spirit Kelley Cockrill.Bob is survived by his daughters Heather and Vanessa (Marcos), and his grandchildren Oliver, James, Rylee, and Mia; parents Robert and Patricia, siblings, Debbie, Steve, Jeff, and Jon.
Bob graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Biology. He dedicated 32 years of his life to teaching both Biology and Chemistry at Pace High School. As an influential figure in the science department, he inspired countless students and passionately advocated for environmental research.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob had a deep-rooted passion for birds, specifically red-tailed hawks and other birds of prey. He was an expert in bird watching and hunting, and his love for nature led him to explore various destinations with his daughters across the country. Bob's enthusiasm for wildlife extended beyond his personal interests, as he actively engaged with others to share his knowledge and foster a greater appreciation for the natural world. He was also a proud supporter of the NRA and second amendment rights.
Bob will be remembered for his ability to strike up conversations with anyone, on any topic. His dry but quick sense of humor and friendly demeanor endeared him to all who knew him. He exemplified what it meant to be a devoted father, grandfather, son, and friend.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on July 1st 2023 at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista from noon to 5pm, with a celebration of life to follow on July 22, 2023, in Belleville, Illinois.
