Today we honor the life of Oscar "Perro" Garcia. Oscar was born May 16, 1964 in a small town called Brownsville, Texas (however, his birth certificate would say otherwise.) Oscar didn't have much of a formal education growing up since this wasn't really a priority back in the day, instead he rebelled and got married at the young age of 16 in the year 1980 to a ruca who lived in his barrio, Maribel Lopez. Together they stayed busy and had their first set of 3 kids nicknamed Oscarito, Mimi and Jojo. A few years after they tied the knot, Oscar packed up his wife and 3 kids and moved them to Atwater California where he finally set his priorities straight and built up good work ethics by working many odd jobs to help give his family a good life. Oscar enjoyed going on bike rides with the kids, shooting beer cans with a BB gun with Jojo, building school art projects with Mimi, he enjoyed spending so much time with his family he'd even take the kids along with him to several of his jobs including picking strawberries in a field where they had once lost Jojo as a toddler. Oscar also showed his kids tough love (very tough love) often pretending to leave the kids stranded at a grocery store because they would not listen. Many summers living in California were spent doing the things he would love to do the most, which were barbecuing, listening to Johnny Cash and drinking beer. Several years passed him and Maribel decided to relocate the family back to Texas and that is when the second set of kids came along, Crystal and Ruby (Ruby, his "little fishing buddy") Crystal and Ruby got it easy compared to the first 3 oldest kids, but by then Oscar had a good handle on how to father spoiled brats. Oscar continued to work very hard every day to support his family and spent 15+ years as a welder doing repairs on oil rigs at New Orleans and the Port of Brownsville. Throughout Oscar's life he'd become very accustomed to being a very altruistic person and often giving to the less fortunate without expecting or receiving any compensation in return and even helping strangers by opening up his home to them with no real expectations except helping them succeed in their own life. Oscar loved to love, he loved life, he loved to have fun, and he was quite the jokester, always trying to prank people and get a good laugh out of anyone, most importantly, he loved having great company around him. He was known for throwing the best barbecue get together’s and always tried to overfeed everyone. He sure did make the best-burnt "chachi's" in town (his way of saying sausage.) We will miss Oscar’s very loud distinctive laugh, his goofy dance moves after a couple of beers, his vulgar phrases and his presence. Oscar Garcia expired from this earth unexpectedly on January 8, 2023. Oscar will be missed dearly by his family and friends who look forward to laughing and being reunited with him someday in heaven.
