Jose Miguel Torres was born on 06-06-1935 in Morelia, Michoacan. He became a U.S. citizen and took great pride in learning all the facts and history that would be test to become a citizen. He loved to read his newspaper daily. He was a man who enjoyed life. He had fond memories of his youth growing up in Morelia, Michoacan. He move to Matamoros, Tamaulipas in his teen years with his family. He fell in love with long distance cycling. He was lucky enough to compete professionally in the Tamaulipas area. He was known as “El Toluco” and interviewed by El Sol de Mexico after winning a race representing Pepsi Cola Matamoros. He married the love of his life, Maria Rodriguez, and enjoyed forming a family. He was a shrimper for 23 years of his life. He enjoyed the ocean and all its beauty. He worked 13 years for BISD at Egly Elem. cafeteria maintenance. He enjoyed traveling to Mexico to visit his relatives and spend time with extended family. He retired to spend time with his loving wife, children, and grandchildren. He was an avid reader, went fishing, practicing his rifle, watch los Monarcas and Chivas soccer teams. He was a devoted Catholic and loved visiting Our Lady of Schoenstatt Shrine in Lamar, TX. Jose enjoyed most of all to take nature walks with his “Nena”.
Jose Miguel is preceded in death by Maria R. Torres “Nena” beloved wife, Florencio Torres-father, Maria Saumosa Torres-Mother, siblings- Javier Torres, Faviola Torres and Gregorio Torres.
Jose Miguel is survived by his children -Maria C. Palomo (Juan), Florencio Torres (Maria Luisa), Mercedes Guzmán (Santiago Jr.), grandchildren: Sergio Soto Jr. (Anita), Joseph M. Soto (Holly), Kevin J. Gomez, Christopher Ramirez, Alexandra Torres, Melina Torres, Florencio Torres III, Gabriela Guzmán, Santiago Guzmán III, Alejandra Guzmán, great grandchildren: Skye K. Soto, Kira E. Soto, Noey K. Soto, Gabriel Uri Leal-Soto, his loving half-brothers/sisters, numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Florencio Torres, Santiago Guzman Jr., Juan Palomo, Sergio Soto Jr., Joseph M. Soto, and Kevin J. Gomez.
A visitation for Jose Miguel will be held Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Rose Lawn. A mass will occur Monday, June 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church followed by a burial at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
