Jody Lynn Woodard was born on June 27, 1967 at Lykes Memorial Hospital in Brooksville, Florida and died in Brooksville, Florida on November 10, 2024.
He is survived by his wife, Myra Rooks; his mother, Julia Woodard Young; siblings Clyde Woodard (Debbie), Misti Humfleet (Danny), D. Erman Woodard, Leo Brass, Henry Brass (Shelia), Bishop Brass Jr., and Melanie Langworthy (Alan); and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Archie (Woody) Woodard and his sister, Connie Brass Dodd.
His childhood was spent picking eggs and feeding chickens on the family’s chicken farm. As well as fighting with his sister Melanie on the school bus (the bus driver would drive up the lane, honk the horn and Ms. Julia would come out with the flyswatter or belt). When the chicken farm sold his agricultural expertise shifted and he started a u-pick pea patch while still in high school. During junior and senior high, Jody held leadership positions in FFA and enjoyed showing steers at the Hernando County Fair. In adulthood, Jody went to work in the mining industry at both Cemex and Holcim. He also worked as a ranch hand for Lykes Brothers in Brighton.
In his later years, he raised cattle and made hay with his wife, Myra whom he married in 2009. They enjoyed fishing together and spending time with their critters.
The family would like to recognize as honorary pallbearers: Marc Rivenbark, Jon Moen, Adam Cannon, Larry Lee, Whitney and Willie Fifer, Casey Reeves, Shannon and Steven (Booger) Brass.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00-11:00am, Friday, November 15, 2024 at Merritt Funeral Home Brooksville (2 South Lemon Avenue, Brooksville, FL), where a Memorial Service will begin at 11:00am. A reception luncheon will follow at 1:00pm at Citrus County Cattlemen's Building (11185 South Pleasant Grove Road, Floral City, FL 34436).
In Remembrance of Jody, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or to UF Health Heart & Vascular Hospital.
