He was a retired U.S. Army veteran of 20 years serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He also retired as Director of Patient Services with Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas and was a member of the Association of the U.S. Army. He liked art, loved western movies and was an avid reader. Family was very important to him.
Donald is preceded in death by his brothers, Henry Jackson and Curtis Jackson; sisters, Rose DeLaMater, Evelyn Chapman, and Barbara Smith. He is survived by his many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand nephews.
Donald was most fond of his military career, where he served our country for 20 years before retiring. During that time, he achieved the highest non-commissioned rank of Command Sergeant Major.
Donald was truly a family patriarch. He was always on top of the newest additions to the family and was deeply devoted to keeping up with the family lineage. It was always a great sight to see him dote over new family members during his later years.
A Graveside Service with military honors will be conducted at 1:00pm, Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Brooksville Cemetery, with Reverend David Hope officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Epworth Children’s Home, PO Box 50466, Columbia, SC 29250.
