Gallagher, Thomas on June 10, 2013. Predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Mary Gallagher, his brother Pascal Gallagher, OFS and his sister, Martha Knieriemen. Tom leaves behind his beloved sister Ellen Knieriemen, his loving children, Tom (Gail), Kevin (Christine), Maureen (John) Farah, his devoted grandchildren, Tom and Kristen Gallagher; Ryan, Heather and Ashley Gallagher; John (Sharon) and James Farah; his great grandchild, John Farah IV; his dear friend Theresa Joyce; Beth Shapiro (who meant so much to him), many nieces and nephews, numerous close friends, grateful students and his YMCA family. Tom was a true reflection of the vibrant and eclectic city in which he lived. During World War II Tom joined the Air Force where he acquired his life-long passion for aviation. He was a professional basketball player before the NBA existed and a fan of the game ever after. Tom was a math teacher and mentor at IS 88 for over 35 years. He was a lifetime member of the YMCA, a lover of harmonica music and a Rubik’s cube aficionado. We will always remember his infectious smile, his caring ways, and what he taught us. We will forever carry Tom in our hearts. Visiting Wednesday 2-5 and 7-9 pm at the Joseph G. Duffy Funeral Home, 255 9th Street, Brooklyn. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday 10:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas RC Church. Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
