Norma R. (Levine) Goldberg, 84, of Framingham passed away at her home on Saturday April 2, 2022 after succumbing to a sudden and brief bout with cancer, which she faced with strength and stoicism. The daughter of William Levine and Rose (Palley), she was born in Worcester and lived in Framingham since her marriage in 1958. Norma was an active member of Temple Beth Am since its founding and was a longtime volunteer for its William & Rose Levine Library, named for her parents. Norma worked for many years at Angier Elementary School in Newton as a reading specialist and, after retiring, she volunteered at Hemenway Elementary School in Framingham. She loved working with children. As much as she enriched their school experience, they enriched her life. For many years after retirement, Norma audited classes at Framingham State University, where she made friends with professors and students alike. She was a longtime supporter of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, taking over her father’s subscription to weekly performances in 1958 and continuing it without interruption through this year. Those who know her, know how important music was in her life. Equally important to her was spending time each summer at her home on the Cape where she delighted in having friends and family come for visits.
Like so many others, family was paramount to Norma. She loved her extended family and those whom she thought of as family. However, the interest she had in the lives of their children and their children’s children was unsurpassed.
Norma was predeceased by her husband, Marvin Goldberg and was a loving mother to her children, Robyn Goldberg and her partner Bruce McKenna, Wendy Spivack and her husband Robert, and William Goldberg and his wife Robyn. Additionally, she is survived by her five grandchildren, Jenna (Spivack) Stow and her husband Hushai and their son Eliyah, Sarah Spivack, Rebekah Goldberg, Max Goldberg and Jonathan Goldberg.
Norma was very much loved by her dear friends and close family and her absence in their lives will be profound. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 5, 2022 at 11:30 AM at Temple Beth Am in Framingham followed by Interment at Beit Olam East Cemetery in Wayland. Shiva will take place following Interment, and on Wednesday the 6th at 5:00PM followed by Minyan at 7:00PM at Norma’s late residence. Donations in Norma’s memory may be made to the William and Rose Levine Library at Temple Beth Am.
