GOLDBERG, Muriel Freedman, 90, of Brooksby Village, Peabody, formerly of Beverly, passed away on December 8, after a long illness. Beloved wife of 58 years to the late Arnold H. Goldberg, DMD; loving mother of Marsha Goldberg (Yair Rosenthal) of Highland Park, NJ, Barbara Ball (Peter) of Newton, and Beth Goldberg of Westborough; cherished Nana to Sivan Rosenthal, Gabrielle Rosenthal, Michael Ball (Charlie), Ethan Ball, Caroline Johnson (Matthew), and Alissa Perry; beloved great-grandmother to Owen Ball. Dear sister to the late Melvin Freedman.
Muriel was born on May 27, 1931, in Dorchester to the late Benjamin and Sadie Freedman. Her father died when Muriel was 10, and she was raised by her mother with the active involvement of her ever-present aunts, Goldie Keleishik, Minnie Baden, and Rose Factor.
She met the love of her life, Arnold Goldberg, when she was still in high school, and they were happily married from 1953 until Arnold’s death in 2011. They lived almost their entire married life at 18 Sylvan Road, Beverly. They enjoyed traveling together, spending time with their family and friends, outings on their boat, swimming in their backyard pool, and being involved in their synagogue, Temple B’nai Abraham. Muriel was committed to her work with local, civic, and charitable organizations. For ten years she worked as a counselor to students at North Shore Community College. Her volunteer work at Hogan Regional Center in Danvers earned her a commendation from the State of Massachusetts in recognition of her significant contribution. In addition, she assisted her husband in managing his dental practice.
Muriel was an outstanding student and was especially proud to have been a Radcliffe alumna, having attended as a commuter student of modest means. She remained involved in alumnae activities and never missed a Radcliffe reunion.
Muriel’s greatest pleasure was her family, and she was very involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives.
Muriel was always a devoted and loyal friend. Her community at Brooksby Village in Peabody, where she spent her later years, was very important to her. Her children are grateful to the many friends she made there for the love and attention they provided.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 10, at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 1668 Beacon St., Brookline, MA. Burial will be private. Due to COVID restrictions, visiting hours will be limited.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Muriel’s memory may be made to Hadassah, https://www.hadassah.org/donate.
