Howard Z. Marton of Brookline, MA passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at the age of 79. He was born on April 18, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY to Irving & Olga (Hollander) Marton.
Howard attended Cornell University for his undergraduate degree and went on to study Ophthalmology at Albert Einstein Medical School. He went on to work as an Ophthalmologist for 46 years and was devoted to providing excellent care to all his patients. Howard also imparted his knowledge to the next generation of doctors, teaching residents at Mass Eye and Ear. In his later years, he also enjoyed teaching a course to students at Harvard Medical School.
Howard was very invested and involved with the Jewish Community here in Boston, as well as in Israel. He was a member of Maimonides Kehillah and Young Israel of Brookline. He was blessed with a beautiful voice, which he loved to share with others, both informally and through leading prayer services.
Howard had many interests, and music was especially dear to him. He loved experiencing music in all forms, be it playing, listening or singing. He was an avid Patriots fan and loved supporting his home team. He had a wonderful sense of humor and his hearty laugh brought happiness to all those who were blessed to hear it. During Howard’s brief retirement, he pursued classes in philosophy, music, and creative writing, as well as lots of fun playtime with his treasured grandson Eli.
Howard will be remembered most for his dedication to his family as a husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife Clara (Moses) Marton, his cherished daughters Dina Marton, Naomi Marton, and Debbie Marton, his son in law Koby Frances and his sister Florence Ness.
Services for Howard will be held at 11:30am on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline, Massachusetts. Following services, interment will take place at Crawford Street Memorial Park, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, Massachusetts.
The family will sit Shiva at the Marton residence, 141 Clark Road, through first thing Wednesday morning. The family requests that visitors come at the following times:
Friday 10am-12pm
Saturday Night 8pm-10pm
Sunday 11am-1pm, 3pm-5pm, 730-930pm, with Maariv at 830pm
Monday 1pm-4pm, 730pm-930pm, with Maariv at 8:30pm
Tuesday 1pm-4pm, 730pm-930pm, with Maariv at 8:30pm
