Evelyn Bernice Perlman, age 95, passed away on November 19, 2024. Born on December 8, 1928, in Boston to the late Joseph Kushner and Anna (Wallace) Kushner.
Evelyn was married to her beloved late husband Sumner for 64 years. They had three sons: Andrew and his wife Robin, Walter and his wife Joan, and Gary. Along with four wonderful grandchildren: Marc, Scott, Ruth and Samantha.
Evelyn was a graduate of Bates College and received a Master’s Degree from Radcliffe College in Education and Guidance. She worked for more than 30 years as a school psychologist for the Arlington Public Schools. In 2000 she was awarded the prestigious ‘Massachusetts School Psychologist of the Year’. In 2006 she was awarded the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the Children’s Group Therapy Association. Evelyn was the co-author of the K-Q (Kindergarten Questionnaire), which was one of the first of its kind preschool screening tools that helped identify students with learning needs. She also had a private practice for over 40 years, that focused on individual and group therapy for early adolescents.
Evelyn really enjoyed spending time with family and especially loved going to the Cape. She enjoyed walking on the beach, swimming at Mayflower Beach and shopping at her favorite store – La Bodega. Being a part of her children’s and grandchildren’s lives was very important to her, whether it was going to a graduation, school play, sporting event or any other family activity. A family tradition was to celebrate accomplishments at The Chateau Restaurant.
Services at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline on Friday, November 22nd at 10:00 AM. Graveside burial to follow at Westview Cemetery, 520 Bedford Street, Lexington. Shiva will be announced at the service.
