She was the beloved first daughter of the late Ralph & Beatrice (Horowitz) Hollenberg. Mentored by Drs. Beatrice and John Whiting, who brought her to Harvard, she received her PhD in Psychology from Radcliffe College at the age of 26. Forever humble, she preferred “Ellie” to formal academic titles. Ellie taught at Wheelock College in Boston for 49 years, where she also served as Chair of the Psychology, Anthropology and Human Development Departments as well as the Faculty Senate. She had a profound and enduring influence on students, faculty colleagues, and administrators at Wheelock College and was universally valued not only for her intellect but for her sense of humor, fairness, generosity and grace. Her compassion and warm support embraced her family and friends and will be forever missed.
Loving mother of Richard Chasdi, PhD, & his wife, Sharon Applebaum, of Grosse Pointe, MI and David Chasdi of Berlin, Germany; loving wife for 59 years of the late Shimon Chasdi; and loving sister of the late Harriet Hollenberg Fey, PhD, and Milton Hollenberg, MD.
