She was born in the Bronx, NY, to Louis Kroll and Sarah Cohen Kroll, who had emigrated to New York City from Russia. Her father and several of his brothers had a business, Kroll Brothers Furs, that was the center of family life.
Dorothy graduated from James Madison High School, and Hunter College in New York, with a business degree, and then worked in accounting. Dorothy met her husband Milton Flier upon his return from serving as pilot during World War II. The two fell in love after a blind date arranged by their parents, and married in 1946. They lived happily in the Bronx for many years where they raised their family. Dorothy taught junior high school math for ten years. She and Milton moved to Boston in the early 1980s where she took up a new career as a bookkeeper for the Studio, a clothing store in Brookline and made many new friends. Milton passed away in 1995. In recent years she lived happily at the retirement community, NewBridge on the Charles.
Dorothy was the loving mother of two sons, Jeffrey and his wife Terry Maratos-Flier, and Steven and his wife Carol Efron-Flier. She was proud of her four loving granddaughters Sarah, Dana, Emily and Lydia, and a great granddaughter Penelope. Dear sister of the late Harold Kroll and Edith Rosenberg. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Dorothy will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services are private.
