KARP, Darleen Patricia Feinstein, 80, of Chestnut Hill, MA passed away peacefully on Monday, June 3, 2024, surrounded by her children and loving husband of 56 years after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Darleen was born in St. Louis, MO on June 26, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Shirley Davis and Willard Feinstein. Darleen was a life-long learner who graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Washington University in St. Louis. She went on to study Sociology at NYU where she met her husband, David A. Karp. She later earned her MBA degree from Boston College after taking time off to raise her two children, Peter and Alyssa. Darleen’s career path was impressive and after re-entering the work force, she went on to become the Associate Treasurer of Tufts University.
Darleen lived life with purpose and her greatest source of joy and accomplishment was her family. She deeply loved her husband, kids, grandkids, siblings, and extended family. They were everything to her. She meticulously organized family vacations and trips around the world to every continent excluding Antarctica, combining her passion for discovering other cultures and her joy of being with those she loved most. She was also among the most selfless and giving people, always making sure that those around her were cared for. This selflessness was expressed through her volunteer work at Rosie’s Place where she taught English to women.
Darleen is survived by her husband, David Allen Karp; her children, Peter Karp and his wife, Erica Herman Karp, and Alyssa Karp; her sister, Alison Feinstein Pryor; and her adoring grandchildren, Jayden, Cody, Sydney, Tyler, Emily, Malia and Brysen. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 10:30am, at The Levine Chapel, 470 Harvard St., Brookline, MA 02446. Following the service, family and friends are invited to the home of Peter and Erica Karp to continue our celebration of Darleen’s incredible life. In lieu of flowers, the Karp Family invites you to make donations in Darleen's honor to Rosie’s Place or The Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
