Barbara Friedman, 92, died peacefully on May 2, 2021 after suffering a severe fall from which she was unable to recover. Barbara was born and raised in New York City. After graduating high school and college early, Barbara attended Brooklyn Law School along with 4 other women in her class of 100 men. She and the other women remained lifelong friends. After practicing law for one year, Barbara married the love of her life, Sidney, and together they had 3 children. While being a stay-at-home mom, and raising their children, Barbara became active in community affairs, taking on several leadership roles. When her children were mostly grown, Barbara went back to work as an attorney, focusing on family and criminal law. She took great pride in her work, and also served with honor as the President of the New York State Women’s Bar Association.
Barbara was a strong, fierce woman, who always thought of herself as a free spirit. She loved the water, traveling, reading, the theater and museums, political discussions, her family and celebrating every special occasion with them. While she lived a full life for the 20 years that followed her beloved Sidney’s death, she never stopped missing him. That full life included many meaningful and joyful years as a volunteer at Mount Auburn Hospital and more recently doing work with the local Democratic Party.
Barbara is survived by her sister Linda (Mel), children, Randy (Howard), Kim (David), Cary (Rick), her grandchildren Seth (Krista), Jesse (Penny), AJ (Cailey), Justin (Jess), Sami, Jeremy, Maggie, as well as 3 great-grandchildren.
If you wish to honor Barbara’s memory with a donation, please consider donating to Mount Auburn Hospital, in Cambridge Massachusetts, for “area of greatest needs” and note “in memory of Barbara Friedman.”
