Shirley, daughter of Frank G. and Norma E. (Wood) Smith, was born January 29, 1928 in Denver, Colorado. She grew up in the Bridgeport area, graduating from Bridgeport High School with the class of 1947. In 1948, Shirley married Loren H. Boman. They lived northeast of Broadwater; and to this union four children were born, two girls and two boys. The family moved to Colorado in 1969 where they later divorced.
Shirley and R.A. “Buff” Buffington were united in marriage in 1972 and made their home in Longmont, Colorado. Traveling and winters in Arizona along with extended summer visits from grandchildren filled their nineteen years in Longmont. Shirley also enjoyed working at a dress shop for eighteen years. Shortly after moving to Bridgeport in 1991, “Buff” passed away.
Shirley was united with Norbert Alber in 2000, until his passing 2012. They enjoyed working puzzles, square dancing, and trips to Prairie Winds.
Shirley enjoyed reading and doing puzzles, coffee with her friends, family gatherings and trips to Utah, Colorado, and Missouri. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A special highlight at the age of 80, was her trip to Panama for granddaughter’s wedding.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Sunshine Extension Club. Shirley worked as a volunteer “Pink Lady” at the Longmont United Hospital.
Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Patricia (Rex) Wilcox, Altamont, Utah, Gaylene Boman and special friend Larry Frame of Sedgwick, CO, two sons, Frank Boman of Oshkosh, and Dennis Boman of Dolan Springs, AZ, 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson whom she preciously met in April; one sister, Marjorie Sprague of Longmont, CO; and one sister-in-law, AnnaMarie Boman of Bridgeport, NE; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
