William Dennis Roberts (Bill) passed away on November 13, 2022, at the age of 72. Born April 29, 1950 in Warsaw, New York, he was the son of the late Ross and Jane Roberts. Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Beverly, his daughter, Erin Philpot (C.J.) of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren Vera and Elsie Philpot; sister Elizabeth “Betsy” Rozanski (Lou) of East Aurora, New York and nieces, nephews and in-laws.
A graduate of Perry Central High School, Bill played in the school band and had his first taste of show business as part of the rock band, The Henchmen. Bill graduated from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and received his dental degree from Temple University in Philadelphia. Bill met his beloved wife Beverly in line for the opening of Star Wars in Rochester, New York. They moved to Nashville, TN where their daughter Erin was born and raised.
Bill had an idyllic childhood growing up in his hometown, Perry, New York. His memories of carefree summers in the family cottage on nearby Silver Lake lasted his lifetime.
While Bill practiced dentistry on a part-time basis throughout his life, music was his true calling and passion. An extremely gifted pianist, singer, arranger and songwriter, Bill did recording session work in Nashville and performed professionally in clubs and bands in Florida, Bermuda, Switzerland, New York and Nashville. Many gatherings with family and friends were uplifted by his talent for playing and singing any request. Nashville-area fans will remember Bill best for his long-time membership in the popular Beatles cover band, FAB.
Blessed with a brilliant mind, Bill was a member of MENSA, and a dedicated life-long learner. He was a voracious reader of all genres and had an insatiable thirst for knowledge throughout his life. Once Bill developed a passion, it was full steam ahead in his quest to be the best he could be whether playing golf, hiking, traveling, biking, staying fit or analyzing stock patterns.
Never afraid to embrace his inner child, Bill’s favorite destination was Disney World. He also had a love of Halloween, delighting in buying skeletons, masks and eerie decorations. Bill had a sharp and occasionally irreverent sense of humor along with an infectious, distinctive laugh that endeared him to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him for his generous spirit, kind heart and passion for life.
A memorial service for William will be held Monday, November 28, 2022 from 2:30 PM to 3:15 PM at Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 9010 Church Street East, Brentwood, TN 37027, followed by a celebration of life reception from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
