Nellie Miles Killebrew

9/14/1933 to 10/13/2022

Nellie Miles Killebrew passed away on October 13, 2022 in Nashville, TN at the age of 89. She is preceded in death by her parents Horace Edward Miles and Louise Edmondson Miles, her sisters Robena Miles Ross and Fannie Louise Miles and her brother Dale Edward Miles. She is survived by her daughter Dianne Killebrew, nieces, nephews and dear friends who feel more like family.

Nellie was born on Gilmore Avenue in Nashville on September 14, 1933. She graduated from Lipscomb High School and UT Knoxville. Her career spanned 34 years as a Medical Lab Technologist at VA Medical Center, Vanderbilt Medical Center and St Thomas Hospital.

Nellie was an avid gardener who loved growing, harvesting and canning foods from our family garden. She raised award winning roses and spent countless hours tending 100+ orchids in her green house.

After retirement, she found her true calling as an artist. She spent hours sketching and painting on canvas – her style was whimsical, detailed and fostered engaging conversations with family and friends.

In recent years, Nellie lived at Belmont Village where she received exceptional care and love from the PALS, nurses and staff. The hospice team from Caris provided ongoing support. We are forever grateful to Sue Sharber for her excellent care, kindness, love and dedication she gave mom for 4 years.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 17th at First Southern Methodist Church (4409 Colorado Avenue) with Pastor Jack Davis officiating. Visitation with family is at 2:00 pm and the service begins at 2:30 pm.
