Martha Bourne Smith

Martha Jane Bourne Smith, age 93, of Spring Hill, Tennessee, formerly of Nashville, Tennessee passed away April 10, 2022. She was born in Clarksville, Tennessee to the late Thomas and Mai Bourne and raised on the Bourne family farm in St. Bethlehem, Tennessee. After graduating from Clarksville High School, she attended Austin Peay State University. She later moved to Nashville and worked at the United Methodist Publishing House.

Martha Jane married George Charlton Smith, Jr. on September 7, 1952. They moved to a house on Gateway Lane in Oak Hill where they raised their four children and built lifelong friendships with their neighbors.

Martha Jane was a longtime member of Brentwood United Methodist Church, where she sang in the Chancel Choir for many years and served on the Building Committee when the church moved to its current location.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George Charlton Smith, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Dale (Sally) Smith of Franklin, Tennessee and Kevin (DeAnne) Smith of Franklin, Tennessee, and daughters, Barbara Smith of Spring Hill, Tennessee and Sharon (Andrew) Sohn of Prospect, Kentucky; grandchildren, Christine Smith of Nashville, Tennessee, Beth Smith of Nashville, Tennessee, Taylor Smith of Franklin, Tennessee, Philip Sohn of Lexington, Kentucky, Peter Sohn of Lexington, Kentucky, Garrett Smith of Franklin, Tennessee, and Megan Sohn of Prospect, Kentucky.

The family would like to especially thank Dr. Tracy Osborne, Dr. Steven Humphrey, Dr. Karen Vloedman, her caregivers at Goldton at Spring Hill and her caregivers at Williamson Medical Center for their care, guidance and support. Visitation will be at Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home (9010 Church Street East, Brentwood) on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a service in the chapel at 10:30.There will be a private burial to follow for family. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Robert I. Moore Sunday School class. Memorials may be made to the Music Ministry at Brentwood United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice
