Jimmy was born June 17th, 1934 in Athens, TN to the late Clyde Lewis Miller and Jewell Calhoun Miller Wright.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife Charlotte “Sissy” Guinn Miller of 68 years, three daughters Jamea Miller Harper (Cy), Lauren “Lolly” Jewell Miller, Mariam Miller Kohl (Jeff) and four grandchildren who he was so incredibly proud of Cyrus “Rus” Wayne Harper III (Jenny), Elizabeth Miller Harper, Eleanor McKenna Kohl and Miller Grace Kohl, as well as many beloved “Calhoun Cousins”.
After graduating from McMinn County High School in 1953, he attended East Tennessee State University.
Jimmy began his full-time career with the Tennessee Army National Guard in 1955 where he proudly served his country for 30 years beginning in Athens and Knoxville before moving to Nashville. Upon his retirement from the Guard, he moved to a civilian position as the Executive Director of the National Guard Association of Tennessee until 1995.
Jimmy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing golf, reading and traveling the world with Sissy. He spent his weekends cheering on The University of Tennessee Volunteers and woodworking in “Poppa’s Sawdust Shop.”
He was a member of Brentwood United Methodist Church since 1976 where he was a dedicated member of Wesley Forum Sunday School Class. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Brentwood United Methodist Church with Full Military Honors. The family will receive friends in the Narthex from 12:00-1:00 pm preceding the service. Reception to follow in Haney Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to Brentwood United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to September Russell for her loving care over the last 6 years. Special thanks to the kind staff from Woodcrest at Blakeford for their love and care for Jimmy over the last month.
