Growing up, Gwen set the bar very high and was recognized for many academic achievements and her genuine beauty. Gwen received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Nursing from Vanderbilt University. She worked as an RN at Vanderbilt for 19 years primarily in Labor & Delivery. Gwen went on to pursue a second career in clinical research where she worked for several Nashville based clinical research organizations and traveled the country managing and monitoring clinical studies.
Gwen was loved so much by her friends and family and she loved her family fiercely. She was private but generous, she was kind but stern, she was serious but witty, and she was deeply committed to her family. Gwen truly enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends, especially quality time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Clearview Baptist Church in Franklin, TN.
Gwen was predeceased by her parents, Harold Edward and Lillian Wall Sweeney. She is survived by her sister, Wanda McCord of Grove City, OH, son, Scott Shockley of Brentwood, TN, daughter, Allison (Gary) Bailey of Brentwood, TN, son, Stuart Shockley of Brentwood, TN, and grandchildren, Austin, Chase, Lawson, Bentley, and Charlee.
The entire family would like to thank all of the family and friends for their outpouring of love and prayers for Gwen. And we would like to thank the 6th floor and CCU staff at Williamson Medical Center for their amazingly heartfelt and tireless care for Gwen over the last two months.
A gathering of family and friends with the Shockley family will be held Friday, October 28th at Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home from five o’clock to seven o’clock in the evening.
