George William Root

George was preceded in death by his parents: father, George W. Root; mother, Katherine D. Lovell; stepfather, Hubert Lovell; wife, Shirley H. Root; and daughter, Mary Ann Root.

Survived by wife, Loretta J. Root; daughters, Glenda R. Verble, and Adell R. Hicks; 5 grandchildren;13 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Foy (Janie) Newcomb, and Larry (Jeannie) Newcomb.

George was in the corrugated box business for over 50 years and retired on January 31, 2015. He served on the Board of Directors of Custom Pkg. He was a member of The A & A Scottish Rite of Freemasonary, USA and Al Menah Shriners. George in his younger years played baseball at Sulphur Dell. He had several hobbies with his favorite being golf.

His family would like to give special thanks to caregivers, Nicole Barnett and Sarah Knolton, all of the nurses and doctors in the MICU Unit and 7th Floor at VUMC. Also, thanks to all the 2nd Floor staff at Bethany Health and Rehab Center.

Pallbearers will be his close friends and co-workers.

Visitation will be held from four o' clock in the evening until eight on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Brentwood Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at eleven-thirty in the morning on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Christ United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior. Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery.
