Estelle J. Russell was born on June 22, 1953, in Murfreesboro, TN, to Hattie Mai Blackman and Walter Gaines. She was lovingly raised by S.L. Young Sr., who became a devoted father figure and provided support and guidance throughout her life.
Estelle accepted Christ at an early age.
Estelle was a proud graduate of Central High School and went on to earn her certification as a Dental Lab Technician from Tennessee Tech.
In 1971, Estelle married her high school sweetheart, the late Jerry L. Johnson, whom she often described as the love of her life. To this union Santoria and Carlos were born. Jerry and Estelle built a beautiful life, one filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Estelle's unwavering devotion to Jerry and their family was the foundation of her life, and their enduring bond was a testament to the strength and beauty of their love.
Estelle had a fulfilling career as a Chemical Lab Specialist and retired after many years of dedicated service. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and the joy she brought to all who knew her. Estelle was also known for her love for cooking, and her meals were a source of comfort and warmth to all who enjoyed them. In her spare time, she enjoyed caring for plants and potting them, a hobby that brought her great joy.
Estelle transitioned from this life on November 2, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and treasured memories. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sisters, Gladys Brown and Linda Blackman.
Estelle’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her sons, Santoria “Tyree” (Kimberly) Johnson and Carlos Johnson; her sister, Juanita Williams; brothers, S.L. (Colleen) Young Jr. and Stanley Blackman; grandchildren, Cierra, Christian, Jeremiah, Kaliyah, Kimayah, and Kyree; great-grandson, Elijah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A special thank you to Kamilah, Tina, Victoria, and Kennetha for all the love, support, and assistance with our mother.
Estelle’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
A celebration of life memorial service for Estelle will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Mt Zion Baptist Church #228, 228 North Maple St, Murfreesboro, TN 37130.
