Veronica Tracy Mance
Veronica Tracy Mance, 58, of Chevy Chase, Maryland passed away suddenly of natural causes on Friday, February 24, 2023.
Veronica, affectionately known by family as Twinkle and Aunt Twinks, was born on September 21, 1964 to William and Burnell Mance in Lorain, Ohio. She attended Lorain Catholic High School where she excelled academically and was involved in many extracurricular activities. She went on to attend the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virgina, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1986. While there she made many lifelong friends and pledged the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. After graduation, she spent a short time working in Atlanta, Georgia before settling in Maryland, living in Chevy Chase for close to thirty years.
Veronica began her professional career in the 1980s at Blue Cross Blue Shield of the National Capital Area where she was a supervisor in the Other Party Liability Department before leaving in 1993 to work for the National Rural Electrification Association (NRECA) where she held the positions of Procedure Specialist and Adjustment Coordinator. In 2000, she began working for the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB) where she was eventually promoted to her most recent position of Strategic Planning Officer which she held since 2015. Throughout her career she was valued and respected for her skills, dedication, commitment, professionalism, enthusiasm, and genuine friendship with many she worked with.
Although she described herself as an introvert, Veronica was very friendly easily striking up conversations with new acquaintances, colleagues and neighbors and made many long lasting friendships throughout her life. Friends and family will remember her caring and kind personality, fun sense of humor, generosity and wise advice. She could be counted on at all times to listen or help in any way she could.
She was also known to family and friends as a fountain of knowledge on all sorts of topics and also for her excellent memory for facts and trivia. She put those skills to good use when she auditioned for and appeared on the September 19, 2012 episode of the television program Jeopardy.
Veronica loved to travel and took many trips in the states and internationally with friends and independently. In recent years, she began traveling extensively in Europe spending several weeks each summer exploring a different city before deciding on the goal of living in Portugal for one year after retiring. Family and friends will fondly remember her annual Christmas letter detailing her travels and life events each year. She was a very special person who will live on forever in the remembrance of all who knew and cherished her.
Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, William and Burnell Mance of Lorain, OH; brother Arlen Mance of Hagerstown, MD; and Evita Spencer of Dunbar, WV. She is survived by brother Tyrone Mance (Priscilla) of Statesville, NC; sister-in-law Cheryl Mance of Silver Spring, MD; nephew William Mance (Vanessa) of Silver Spring, MD; nieces Tamara Hinton, Charlotte, NC; Tish Mance of Charlotte, NC; Arlena Mance of Rand, WV; Erica Watson (Anthony) of Clinton, MD; and Anya Jordan of Statesville, NC; grandnieces Chelsea Mance of Charlotte, NC; Jasmine Mance-Mayfield of Clinton, MD; Malia Rodman of Charlotte, NC; Elizabeth Arce of Silver Spring, MD; and Amia Mance of Rand, WV; and grandnephews Jorian Jordan of Charlotte, NC; J’Quan and Ethan Dobbins of Statesville, NC; London Spencer of Statesville, NC; and Arlen Mance II of Rand, WV; and several cousins and close friends.
Services will be held at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home and Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road Brentwood, MD 20722. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 12th from 11:00a to 12:00p, followed by a Funeral Service from 12:00p to 1:00p with the burial following immediately. The service will also be live streamed. A repast meal will be served following the burial.
