Joyce Ann Pope-Little was born on October 25, 1950, to the late Gladys Charles and Clarence Pope in Newport News, Virginia. Not long before Joyce turned 9, her mother moved her and two siblings to Washington, DC.
Joyce attended DC Public Schools such as Mott Elementary, Garnett Patterson Junior High and Cordozo Education Campus. She also studied at Northern Virginia Community College. Joyce grew up in the Ledroit Park area where she met many lifelong friends.
After graduation, Joyce then went on to pursue her career working for the National Science Foundation, Pension and Benefits Guarantee Corporation, and later retiring from Washington Gas and Light Company in 2016. During her tenure, she met and married Harold Little, Sr where they shared 18 years of marriage.
Joyce had an infectious and one-of-a-kind laugh, a beautiful smile that lit up the room, and a love for fashion that should have been displayed on the runway. She was a DIVA. Everywhere Joyce went she was sure to know someone or make a connection that would last a lifetime.
Joyce was quiet but also the life of the party. She loved traveling, shopping, watching football and basketball, listening to music, walking multiple times a week around the lake, taking care of her plants, arranging flowers, and spending time with family. She loved having girl talk with her sister, niece, and bonus daughter, hanging out and enjoying her little brother’s company, catching up on old times with her childhood friends, and spending time with her amazing neighbors that treated her like family.
Joyce will truly be missed but has joined multiple family members we loss before her. She will rejoice and be new with her mother and father, Carl and Gladys Owen and Clarence Pope, Grandparents Marshall and Geneva Charles, and brother Ronald L. Pope.
Joyce is survived by her sister Joan White (Lawrence), niece Rhonda Gore (James), great-nephew Kairi Gore, best friend/ex-husband Harold Little, Sr, bonus-daughter Chimere Weaver, bonus-grandsons Cody, Aaron, and Makai, great aunt Tracey Charles, and a host of cousins and friends.
