The son of Joseph B. and Selma (Haugen) McManus, Joseph was born March 12, 1936 in Bemidji, MN. He married Betty Lee Noble on May 21, 1981 and they made their home in Bremerton. Joseph served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-1962 as a pipefitter. He later worked as a truck driver for Simpson Lumber in Shelton and as a Rigger at PSNS.
He was also a beekeeper and a clown, wrote poetry and short stories, and in his spare time, enjoyed walking the mall. He was a member of the LDS Church, Clowns of America, the Bremerton Yacht Club, and the Port Orchard Farmers market.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Sid Adams and Vic McManus. He is survived by wife, Betty; sons, Christopher, David, & Michael McManus of Bemidji, MN; stepsons, John Arthur, Gale Loring (Carrie Ann) of Boise, ID, and Ben Eugene Roberts of Marion, IN, and Terry Cantzer, Don Foshay, and David Foshay; sister Margaret Allred of Seattle; second cousin Patrick F. McManus (Darlene) of Spokane, WA; granddaughter, Heather McManus; and friend, Ralph Strickland with whom he walked every weekday for 15 years.
A funeral service for Joseph will be held at the LDS Chapel on Old Frontier Road on Wed., Aug 29. Viewing will be at 12 p.m. with the service to follow at 1 p.m.
