Eleanor was born on August 10, 1937, in Seattle Washington, to Olaf and Thelma Gunderson. Eleanor was the middle of 5 children older siblings, brother Ron and sister Eunice, and younger siblings, brother Myron and sister Olia.
From Kirkland, her family moved to Port Orchard where she was raised, when she was about 5. When she was only 11 years old Eleanor lost her father, greatly impacting her life. She then helped her mother raise the younger siblings. Growing up Eleanor enjoyed playing baseball. She attended South Kitsap High School as a straight A student.
On May 8th, 1954 at St. Bede's Episcopal Church in Port Orchard Washington Eleanor married the love of her life Roland (Rolly) James Schroeder. They were blessed with four children; Darrell, Brian, Brenda, and Debbie.
For 29 years she worked for the Bremerton Sun as a deliverer. In that time Eleanor was awarded for Safe Driver and Employee of the Month. She enjoyed going to the ocean. One of her favorable trips was to Canada with Rolly. She enjoyed gardening, music, painting and square dancing. Eleanor also enjoyed playing baseball and bowling. She was on the committee of the Sunnyslope Community Club as well as being involved with Scouting, Campfire Girls, and Tops
Eleanor is survived by her children: Darrell (Linda), Brenda (Scott), Debbie (Rudy), Brian (Wanita), her Grandchildren: Dustin, Nicholas, Ken, Scott, Kristin, Brandon, Cameron, Kegan, and Chloe, and her Great-Grandchildren Roland (Rolly), Myron, Devin, Nolan, Kristin, Leila, Maleiah, Troy, Emily, Oriah, Adalyse, Kasin, and Cash.
Eleanor was preceded in death by; father Olaf Gunderson and mother Thelma Gunderson, her Husband Roland Schroeder, Her two sisters: Eunice and Olia, and her two brothers: Ron and Myron.
A burial for Eleanor Was held Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at 12:00 AM at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park, 5505 Kitsap Way, Bremerton, Washington 98312.
