Marion was pre-deceased by her parents Robert and Peggy North, her brother Robert (Leo) and her sister-in-law Grace and her close cousin Rhea. Sadly missed by cousins Garry, Gail, Brian (Jayne) and Marg, nephew Robert (Karen), nieces Barbara, Sheila, Diane and Bonnie. Long time friendships with Barbara and Neil, Linda and her travelling companion Rita.
Marion completed her training at Hamilton Teacher’s College, beginning her teaching career at Victoria School in 1954. When school libraries were begun, Marion got her Librarian’s certificate and over the next twelve years served as librarian at fourteen schools in Brant county. Under her leadership students and staff got to know and love the opportunities books can provide, imaginations grew and people looked forward to her great sense of humor. In 1973, Marion decided she had enough of this dashing about and settled down at Graham Bell School, where she taught in the primary division until her retirement in 1984. Marion also graduated from Waterloo University with a general B.A.
She inspired many young children through her teaching years, had past students visit her and have their wedding photos taken in her picturesque backyard! Marion enjoyed travelling through Europe, the east coast of Canada, by car through the U.S. even along Route 66. Marion was an avid reader, starting at a young age when her brother would take her to the library on Saturdays to exchange their books and when she had her own home, collected books (just one of her many collections) and had her own library! Marion played baseball and golf, loved attending plays with Rita in Stratford, Niagara -on-the-lake, and St Jacob's.
Our cousin, Marion was an independent, determined and very intelligent woman. She always had a smile, was so kind and caring and was always thankful. She lived a full productive life. Marion bought her first home on William Street, later selling it and purchasing a stately century home on Broadway Street in Paris, Ontario where she resided with her Mom, taking care of her. Marion adored both owls and her much loved cats through the years and if you called you could get a message “Charlie, Perkins and I can’t come to the phone right now, but leave a message and we will get back to you”.
We celebrated her 90th birthday just two weeks before her passing. She sat at the head of the table sharing cake and ice cream with her close friends and family including her nephew and wife who travelled here for the occasion. With the grace and gentleness and the touch of the teacher she recited the poem “The Owl and the Pussycat” in full ending with:
“And hand in hand on the edge of the sand they danced by the light of the moon,
The moon,
The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon."
Two weeks later she decided to take another voyage “by the light of the Silvery Moon".
Thanks to all who helped with Marion’s care and a very special thank you to Kathy S. who as always went above and beyond in caring for Marion and was thrilled when Marion said to her “I love you”!
On a final note Marion loved to shop and when she heard on Sunday there was a shopping channel and the Bradford Exchange in heaven she left here Monday. Her Visa card is still missing! God bless you Marion, we love you to the moon and back, we will miss you!
