Lancelot Orien Grant was born in Georgetown Guyana on Christmas day 1957 to the late Lloyd Harold Grant and Kathleen Grant, nee France. He emigrated to the USA in 1977, where he attended Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn before embarking on a three decade career of military service to the United States.
In the U.S. Air Force his unwavering and outstanding service earned him the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, Organizational Excellence Award, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and The Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He retired from the Air Force in 2008 as a Senior Master Sergeant. Lancelot continued his military service until 2020, working with Northrop Grumman, Parsons Corporation and finally SOSi Aerospace at the United States Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base as HQ Commandant/Facilities Engineer.
With his passing on January 31st, Lancelot is survived by his devoted partner Loretta Forrest; siblings Dallas Grant Gordon, Jabez Grant; children Lancelot Jr, Cameron, Asia, Aamahri, Tiara, Theodore; grand children Cameron Jr and Ca’Morah Wilson, aunts Elaine Salmon, Pamela Hytmiah; nieces Danah, Jemila, Deborah, Deandra; nephews Jelani, Daniel, Jabari; cousins Lynette Douglas, Yvonne Barrow, Claudette Bouyea, Cicely, Eslyn, Yvonne Ferguson, Rhonda, Shandel, Candace, Karen, Leslie Stewart and many extended family members and friends.
A loving, supportive, and earnest father and uncle, Lance was fondly known as the ‘OG’ by his nieces and nephews. His love of puzzles, numerous board games and the TV game show Jeopardy earned him a kind of “pied-piper” status among both family and friends of all ages. His endearing smile and affable personality came to life in the presence of company; he was at his best when cooking and entertaining family and friends. His gumbo, award winning chili and mixed drinks were legendary. And the consumption of his fried catfish caused many a diner to lose their composure, seemingly forgetting that a third trip to the pan can be unseemly and rarely goes unnoticed.
As an avid weight lifter, Lance’s athleticism and strength earned him several powerlifting trophies and awards. And It would be grossly negligent and possibly sacrilege to speak of Lance and not mention his loyalty to BIG Blue, the New York Giants.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm- 8:00pm on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 W. Brandon, Blvd. Brandon, Florida 33511. He will be laid to rest at Cypress Hills National Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York at a later date.
