Michael was born in Paterson, NJ, to the late Michael Sr. and Lillian Milligan. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II stationed in the Philippines. After serving his country, Michael co-owned Milligan Trucking with his brothers. Next, he owned and operated Vitale’s Bar and Restaurant in Hawthorne, NJ. However, he missed being behind the wheel of a truck and changed his career again and began working for Suffern Distributers in Mahwah, NJ and then later in Montgomery NY until his retirement in 1987. Michael was a proud Teamster and served as Shop Stewart for many years.
Michael was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW Post 10061.
In addition to his parents, Michael was also predeceased by his brothers, Raymond, Daniel and Edward; and his sister, Lillian. He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Annamae E. Milligan; his children, Annamae T. Milligan, Patricia Schwarz, Michael Milligan III and his wife, Meg, and Nancy A. Morrisey and her husband, Jim; 8 grandchildren, Amy McGill, Thomas P. Ribnicky Jr., Stephen Schwarz Jr., Eric J. Schwarz, Michael Milligan IV, Patrick Milligan, James M. Morrisey and Sean M. Morrisey; and 4 great-grandchildren, Thomas P. Ribnicky III, Mackenzie Ribnicky, Madeleine Schwarz and Stephan Schwarz III.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at St. Thomas the Apostle R.C.C. 210 US-206, Sandyston, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, July 29, 2022, at the church, followed by interment in B.G. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd, Wrightstown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Michael’s memory to: the VFW Post 10061, Lakehurst, NJ. Arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, Branchville, NJ. Online condolences may be offered at www.woodfuneralhome.net.
