She was predeceased by her husband James Clarence McBride (2001), daughter Katherine (McBride) Luke (2018), and son-in-law Stewart Luke (2013).
Millie was also the loving mother of Jim (Cathy), Bill (Cheryl), Janet (Gary), Karen, and Michael (Cheryl).
She will be fondly remembered by her 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Mom passed away peacefully of natural causes and will be missed by all. I’m sure that Mom’s actual first names “Marie Alberta” and then Mildred is a surprise to most of us. I’m sure most of us knew her as Millie or Mildred for all of our lives. She was born in Cochrane Ontario, which is close to 5 hours North of Sudbury. Born Dec 8, 1932, she was 1 of 8 children. After Cochrane she moved to Toronto, and then to Milton for 7 years where her family enjoyed living in a country/farm environment complete with a large swimming pond with a diving platform. After Milton, it was to the suburbs of Burlington where her 6 children attended public and high schools. She worked in the Nelson High School cafeteria at the same time that her children, Kathy, Jimmy, and Billy attended there, a unique experience to be sure. Later in life, she moved to Brampton and then back to Burlington for her final years.
Our special thanks to her daughter Janet who took her in during her later years and lovingly cared for her. Mom developed dementia/Alzheimer's and needed to spend her final 2 years at the AgeCare Brant Center Nursing home in Burlington. Our thanks go out to the staff at Agecare where she received her expert care.
A special thanks to her daughter-in-law Cheryl McBride, wife of Bill. Cheryl was Mom's best friend in her final years and they would speak often, even daily for a long time until she was not able due to the onset of dementia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
