John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mona, daughters Laurie, Marion (Gary) and Janet, grandchildren Shelby (Adam) and Evelyn, great grandson Parker and a niece, nephews, their children and extended family. John was a loving husband, father and granddad who lived by the motto it’s nice to be nice.
John immigrated to Canada in 1958 from Glasgow Scotland with his mother, sister, brothers and sister in law. He met Mona Spence, a Belfast girl, thru his future sister-in-law and the rest, as they say, is history. They moved to Bramalea in the late sixties, he continued to commute into King Street where he worked at Massey Ferguson for thirty years. John received his Life Membership Card from the Freemason Lodge “Newlands” in March of 1953. He was a member of the Maple Leaf Lodge No. 600 up until he died.
The perfect afternoon for John consisted of watching his kids and then grandkids jumping in and out of the pool, playing dominos, rummy, gardening and watching soccer. He passed on his love of gardening and music to his kids. He was a life- long supporter of the Glasgow Rangers, the team song was one of the first songs he taught his girls. Both he and Mona loved live theatre, going to as many shows as possible in Toronto, Niagara on the Lake and Stratford. They traveled to various parts of Canada and the United States in their retirement years enjoying restaurants and quirky stops along the way.
A service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Andrews Community Funeral Centre - Bramalea Chapel, Brampton. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Daily Bread Food Bank, a charity John supported every Christmas.
Rest in peace Dad you earned it.
