Bob was a caring and compassionate man, deeply respected by his family and friends. His big friendly smile always lit up his face, and he had a special love for children who adored him.
Bob is survived by his partner, Karen Garofalo; daughter, Stacey Lynn Melvin; son, Joel Melvin (Cassie); grandchildren: Robert Grayson Melvin, Riley Melvin, Jake Melvin, and Tara Melvin; great grandson Elijah DeLong; sister, Connie Dinkel; as well as various stepchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Joseph Melvin Sr., and mother, Madeline Lowther Melvin.
Bob started his education in Terre Haute, Indiana, where he completed primary and high school education. He went on to graduate from Indiana State University in 1971.
Bob worked at Nationwide Insurance in Indiana before moving to Florida. He spent many years in the auto industry, managing a Mercedes dealership in Sarasota, starting his own used car sales business, and working for the Honda Corporation before retiring.
Outside of work, Bob had a variety of hobbies including auto racing, attending football and hockey games, and being an avid fan of the Tampa Bay Rays. He also enjoyed playing Texas Hold’em at the local cardroom and occasional visits to the Hardrock Casino.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at Robert Toale & Sons Celebration of Life Center at 4310 Solutions Lane, Bradenton, FL 34211, on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Foundation or Tidewell Hospice.
