After graduating high school Joanne went on to study Social Work at the University of Denver where, at the end of her freshman year, she met her future husband of 69 years, John Zorack in his diner, The College Kitchen. Joanne and John married 6 weeks later and went on to have 4 beautiful daughters in short order.
Joanne was a devoted mother and homemaker; sewing dresses for her four girls while also making sure they had “hot chow on the field” nightly. She was also an artist, painting with her friends at the Torpedo Factory in Old Town, Alexandra, VA for many years. A lover of nature, animals, the arts and God, Joanne sang in her church choir at Saint Christopher’s, nurtured many a potted impatiens and routinely conversed with neighborhood felines.
Later in life Joanne attended First Baptist Church of Sarasota and traveled with Pastor Bill and others to the Holy Land where she and John were baptized in the Jordon. Throughout her lifetime she and John enthusiastically frequented concerts, the ballet, art museums and the theatre. This dynamic duo was known to tear up the dance floor well into their 80’s. In addition, Joanne and John loved to travel taking their children and grandchildren on numerous overseas adventures to Italy and beyond.
Joanne was avid about healthy eating and lifetime fitness, working for Weight Watchers for many years and always finding time for exercise. But above all Joanne was known for her love of people, centered on her adoring family, engaging neighbors, fellow church congregants and just about everyone she encountered. Joanne made friends all along life’s path, her bright, winning smile and love of conversation a burst of sunshine in any social vista. She embodied the love of Christ and will always be cherished in the hearts and memories of family and friends.
Joanne is survived by her sister, Suzanne Corliss; her four daughters, Lynn Susan Jones (Dee Jones), Jan Phyllis Ruse (Randy Ruse), Endya Patricia Rose (Rusty Rose), Jill Marie Udell (Douglas Udell) and her son, Binh Nguyen (Khoa Nguyen); and a host of 34 adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren.
