Joan was born June 29, 1928, in Hiteman, Iowa to the late Clarence and Evelyn Davies. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Russell Vaillancourt, and two brothers, James Davies and her twin, Joseph Davies. Left to treasure her memory are a son, William Vaillancourt (Heather) of Greenbrier, Arkansas, a daughter, Joanie Sharp (Steve) of Linden, Michigan and Port Charlotte, Florida; four grandchildren, Brandon Schatko, Benjamin Vaillancourt, Jessica Schatko and Joy Griffith (Vaillancourt), and her husband Sam Griffith. She also leaves behind many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and her special “adopted” family members.
Prior to marriage, Joan had worked as a model, an executive secretary, and at The Children's Aid Society in Detroit, Michigan, assisting families seeking to adopt a child.
Joan married the love of her life in November of 1951. She and Russ then embarked on a lifetime of adventures that included boating, family trips, and regularly hosting of dinner parties for family and friends. An accomplished cook and gracious hostess, Joan loved to plan and prepare special meals for her loved ones and church family.
Joan accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very young age, and was a longtime faithful member of both Highland Park Baptist Church in Southfield, MI and First Baptist Church of Bradenton, FL. Joan's faith was the most important aspect of her life. She fervently prayed for others, and found great comfort in God's love, always seeking to trust Him and be a blessing to others. Joan was a shining light to all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.
The family will greet friends and from 10:00-11;00 on Monday, March 5th, at the chapel of First Baptist Church of Bradenton Fla, followed by a celebration of Joan’s life at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will immediately follow at Manasota Memorial Gardens.
