Mrs. Wyneta passed away peacefully on the morning of January 17th, 2023.

Born to parents, Lonzie L. and Lydia Autrey of Montgomery, AL, Wyneta worked throughout her life serving others. By profession, she was a registered nurse with 40 years in the field. She was a medical-surgical nurse, as certified on January 1, 1991. She had provided education and training to hundreds of nurses throughout the Washington metropolitan area. Retiring in 2013, she continued to serve friends and family as she was able. Known to be diligent, conscientious, and excessive in her desire to serve, Wyneta was frequently told, “That’s too much, Mrs. Wyneta. You truly have done too much for me.”

Wyneta graduated from Conecuh County Training School in 1957 (with honors) and went on to attend Tuskegee Institute. She received her nursing cap as a college sophomore in 1959 before graduating with a degree in nursing (with honors). She later obtained a master’s degree in nursing in the late-70s and became a nursing educator for the District of Columbia.

On December 22, 1963, she married John N. Arrington of Laurel, Mississippi, and by their union, Darryl Arrington was born, her only child. She later married Charles Contee of Prince Georges County, Maryland. Charles passed away on January 11, 2008.

To celebrate her life, Mrs. Wyneta leaves her son, a daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren. She also leaves her brothers James Autrey and Charles Autrey, and two living sisters: Emma Roundtree, and Shirley MacMillian. She also has many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Wyneta was a foodie before it was popular, and she never saw a bone that she felt was truly free of meat. She loved cakes and pies of all sorts, fried fish, and roasted nuts. She loved to receive and to share. Most of all, she depended on Jesus in word, song, and deed. Today, she is enjoying the most tasty feast of all with her blessed Savior, partaking of her treasure laid up in heaven, having reunited with Lonzie, Lydia, and other relatives and friends who preceded her to glory.
