Mary Dixon

Mary was born to parents John and Virginia Wall on October 17, 1937, in Washington, DC.

Mary graduated Anacostia High School and married her high school sweetheart Raymond L. Sandifer in 1955. The couple had four children: Linda, Patricia, Susan and Raymond Jr. As a young, working mother Mary was an active member and president of the PTA and volunteered at many of her children’s swim meets. Mary worked as an executive secretary for many years before joining Giant Food where she enjoyed 35 years of service as the administrative assistant to several senior vice presidents before retiring. After retiring Mary had a very busy and active social life. When she was not traveling or visiting her children she volunteered and was president of the Crofton Association of Retired Persons (CARP), organizing social events for its members. An avid and life-long Redskins fan, Mary could often be found Sunday afternoons rooting for her team in the company of friends at the Bowie Elks Lodge # 2903.

Mary is survived by her sister, Rae Jean Snyder; her four children: Linda Sandifer, Patricia Ayres, Susan Anderson, and Raymond L. Sandifer Jr., daughter-in-law Nancy Sandifer, her grandchildren: Mary Melissa Rinderle, Jeff Anderson, Raymond M. Sandifer, Rachel Bisciotti and Kelsie Ayres; great grandchildren Sawyer Rinderle and James Bisciotti as well as her former husband Raymond L. Sandifer and many nieces, nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents John and Virginia, half-brother Carl Saul as well as second husband John E. Dixon.

At Mary’s request, no funeral services will be held. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017, 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home in Bowie, MD.

The family is grateful for the condolences but declines flowers. Memorial contributions are welcome and should be made in memory of Mary to the National Stroke Association website http://www.stroke.org.
