Kicha Smith-Ulevich

On Friday, August 11, 2023, Kicha Smith-Ulevich beloved wife and mother of two, lost her battle with metastatic ovarian cancer at the age of 75. She passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family.

Kicha was born and raised in South Korea to parents Min Ja Lee and Jin Hwa Kim. She graduated from high school in 1966 and went into nursing afterwards. She moved to the United States in 1973 and a few years later started her family; becoming a mother to her two children Shelena and Tommy. Being married into the military, she lived in many places including Oregon, Minnesota, Texas, and finally Maryland which she had called home for the past 27 years. While in Maryland she decided to pursue her love of fashion and instantly landed a position with Petite Sophisticate and later with Ann Taylor. She absolutely loved her job and the wonderful friends she had made over the years.

In addition to fashion, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, dancing, traveling (wished she could have done more), going to the theatre, shopping, dining out, bowling, driving fun cars, long walks around Allen Pond park, spending quality time with family and friends, and watching her grandson play soccer.

Kicha was best known for her vibrant personality, generous spirit, and kind soul. She greeted you with the biggest, warm hugs and bright, beautiful smile. She also made the best Yaki Mandu (fried Korean dumplings) in town! Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 16 years David Ulevich, daughter Shelena Fleming (David), son Tommy Smith (Casey), and grandson Mason Smith. She is also survived by her sister Moon Ja Kim and brother Hong Jun Kim, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Min Ja Lee and father Jin Hwa Kim.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, November 3rd, 2023 from Noon until 1:00 PM, with the memorial service to begin at 1:00 PM with a reception to follow here at the Robert E. Evans Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA).
