Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on January 14, 1943, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Margaret A. (Bennett) Whitnell, Sr. of Wilmington, Mass.
Mrs. Wilcox grew up in Somerville and Stoneham, Mass. and graduated from Stoneham High School, Class of 1960, where she particularly enjoyed her activities as a majorette.
She worked for C & P Telephone Company in Baltimore and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Boston. After returning to Maryland in 1971, she stayed home to raise her family and was later employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, from which she retired in 2011. Most recently, she was involved in the Golden Age Club in Greenbelt.
Mrs. Wilcox will be fondly remembered by all who knew her as kind, thoughtful and generous. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 43 years, Warren C. Wilcox of Greenbelt, her daughters Cynthia L. (Mayer) Merlini of North Andover, Mass., Robin J. Wilcox and Tara C. Wilcox, both of Greenbelt, and grandchildren Annamarie and James Embrey, also of Greenbelt.
Her survivors also include her sisters, Ellen M. “Tish” Tull of Glen Burnie, Maryland and Maureen M. Twomey of Gardner, Mass., her brother John C. Whitnell, Jr. of Vero Beach, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
