Buz was born in Takoma Park, Maryland and graduated from Mongomery Blair High School. He joined the Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department as a teen and became a life member. He was drafted into the US Army and served in Germany.
After completing his time in the Army, Buz worked as a professional musician before starting his career with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, where he would retire as a Master Firefighter.
Buz was a kind and generous man with a keen intellect and quick sense of humor. He played goalie with recreational ice hockey leagues and was an avid fan of the Washington Capitals. He enjoyed playing poker (a lot) and continued to play his music almost every day. He has been described by his friends as a “true original” and was loved and will be missed by many.
Buz was preceded in death by his parents Duane Sr and Shirley and his sisters Denise and Cheryl Jean. He is survived by his wife Linda, son Duane III, grandson Hunter, and brothers James (Kathy) and Dean.
A visitation for Buz will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715. Interment is private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Montgomery County Career Firefighters Charitable Foundation, 932 Hungerford Drive, Suite 33A, Rockville, MD 20850.
