Robert Theodore D'Orsa

Robert (Bob) Theodore D’Orsa, 90, of Onset, MA passed away on January 29, 2020 peacefully, surrounded by his family at Tobey Hospital in Wareham, MA. Born February 11, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY, Bob was the oldest of five. He was the son of Richard and Gertrude D’Orsa. He is survived by his four daughters, Annette Flaherty and husband Robert of Naples, FL; Margaret Nadeau and husband Peter of Swansea, MA; Cathleen Needleman and husband Paul of North Falmouth, MA and Patricia D’Orsa-Dijamco and the late Salvador Dijamco of Estero, FL. Bob is also survived by his sister, Louise Thompson of St. Augustine, FL and his former wife, Lillian Court of Buzzards Bay, MA. Robert was the proud grandparent of 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Bob grew up in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from St. John’s University, Jamaica, NY with a BS in Pharmacology in 1951. He served as a medic in the US Army during the Korean War. After his military service, Bob started his career as a pharmacist in Newark, NY. In 1962, Bob made a career change to Special Agent/Criminal Investigator for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Fire Arms, US Department of Treasury. He was assigned to many special tasks forces including outlaw motorcycle gangs, counterfeit alcohol, organized crime, arson for profit, cigarette smuggling, and financial investigations. In 1970, Bob testified before the US Senate Subcommittee for Internal Security. In addition, he was assigned to the US Secret Service Protection Program for the Presidential Candidates during 1972, ’76 and ‘80. Robert retired from his beloved ATF in 1984. After retirement, he became a federal contract supervisor for DEA asset forfeiture investigations. He maintained his pharmacy license throughout his federal career, ultimately returning to various pharmacy positions including proprietor at Reckard’s in Taunton, MA.

Bob enjoyed boating, fishing, gun collecting and listening to music, especially Frank Sinatra and the Boston Pops. Most of all, he enjoyed recounting his life adventures. He was a member of the Elks and Knights of Columbus. He raised his four daughters in Raynham, MA.

The family would especially like to thank the staff of the ICU at Tobey Hospital for their compassionate care.

Visitation will be held at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA 02532 on Monday, February 3rd from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, Pocasset, MA on Tuesday, February 4th at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery immediately following Mass.
