Retired Chief Petty Officer Rex Earl Barton of Pocasset, MA, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Cape Cod Hospital. Born in Corpus Christi, TX, he was the son of the late Arthur Laverne and Ruth (Fish) Barton. Rex grew up in Portsmouth, RI, and enlisted into the Coast Guard at the age of 18. He proudly served as an AMC/E-7 Chief Petty Officer (the highest rank attainable for an enlisted man), and was stationed at several bases, but ultimately retired at Otis Airforce Base after serving 23 years. After retirement Rex worked at the Massachusetts National Cemetery for 14 years and moved to Pocasset, where he lived until his passing.
Rex is survived by his daughter Michelle E. Ullo and her husband Steven of Bourne, as well as his son Jacob J. E. Barton and his wife Doreen of Bourne. Rex leaves behind his 9 grandchildren – Cullen, Rhyan Elizabeth, and Shea Ullo of Bourne, and Sheehan, Delilah, Jadon, Liam, Bryce, and Oliver Barton of Bourne. Rex is also survived by his sister, Sandra Allen of Middletown, RI.
Rex lived in close proximity to his son and daughter and never missed out on time spent with his family. He died peacefully with his son and daughter at his side.
A visitation will be held at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA, on Wednesday, June 15th from 11:30am – 1:30pm with burial to follow at 2:00pm at the Massachusetts National Cemetery; Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org
