Mary Ellen Burgess

Mary Ellen Burgess, a lifelong resident of Bourne MA, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021 after a brief illness at the age of 44. Mary Ellen was born February 18, 1977 to Leonard and Elaine Burgess of Buzzards Bay. The youngest of Lenny and Elaine’s five children, she was loved beyond words. She was the joy of her sister Kathy’s life, and doted on by all, including her three adoring big brothers.

Mary Ellen graduated from Bourne High School in 1995 and went on to study at Westfield State College. From there she worked as a teller trainer and later on for the Bristol County’s DA Office.

Mary was known for her beauty on the inside and out. She had an infectious smile, a great sense of humor and a bubbly personality that made everyone want to be around her. She was a warm, kindhearted person who loved to care for others.

Mary was a holiday enthusiast, she loved decorating for all occasions, and enjoyed being around her family and friends during these times. She loved the summer, long days at the beach, going to concerts, and had a true passion for rescuing and fostering animals.

She leaves behind her sister Kathleen Burgess, her brothers Jeffrey and Thomas Burgess, and sister-in-law Kathy Burgess, all of Buzzards Bay. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and a close group of childhood friends that she adored. She is predeceased by her father Leonard, her mother Elaine, and her brother James Burgess.

A visitation for Mary will be held Friday, October 22, 2021 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA and will be followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM at St. Margaret Church, 141 Main Street, Buzzards Bay, MA. Burial will be held at Sagamore Cemetery, Sandwich Road, Bourne, MA.
