John Hollis Hickey Sr.

John H. Hickey, Sr., 78, of Buzzards Bay, died peacefully while surrounded by his family on February 23, 2016 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, MA. He was born on November 20, 1937 in Boston, MA. the only son to John W. Hickey and Dorothy M. (Howatt) Hickey. John married his wife, Evelyn (Carbone) Hickey in 1960 and they were happily married for 55 fun filled, loving years.

In addition to his wife, John leaves behind his daughters Jacqueline M. Hickey of Wareham and Lynne H. (Hickey) Throckmorton of Buzzards Bay as well as his son, John H. Hickey, Jr. of North Falmouth. He was the loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. John’s sons, Michael S. Hickey and Patrick S.Hickey preceded him in death.

After graduating from Bourne High School in 1956, John became a member of the United States Marine Corps where he proudly and honorably served as a jet mechanic. It was in the corps where John was taught to be an electrician and he finally settled back in Bourne to raise his family and started his own electrical business. In addition to owning his own business, John was the Chairman of the Personnel Board for the Town of Bourne for 20 years, President of the Rotary Club, President of the Chamber of Commerce and one of the founders of the Bourne Scallop Festival. He was also a lifetime member of the Wareham Lodge of Elks.

John was a lover of all sports but football was definitely his favorite! He enjoyed watching high school, college and professional football whenever he had the chance. In addition to sports, John loved gardening and cooking and spending time with his family and friends.

One of John’s favorite Cape Cod summers was spent “walking the beat” for the Bourne Police Department. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Bourne Patrolmen’s Association, PO Box 404, Buzzards Bay, MA 02532.

His Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 29, 2016 at St. Margaret Church 141 Main Street Buzzards Bay, MA 02532.
