Ms. Shepardson was an amazing woman. I remember being in middle school and my face lighting up whenever I walked into a room and found her there as my subsitiute teacher. Aunt Cathy, there is so much I want to say to you, and this just doesn't seem sufficient. It breaks my heart that I won't hear you call me Stephy Girl, or tell me to "be good for my mama," ever again. I always thought you would be helping me pick out my wedding dress, at my college graduation, with me forever. I know you are still with us, every time a cute boy walks in, I can feel you nudging me. I promise I will look out for my mama, and your boys too. I miss you so much, and will love you forever. I find peace in that its not goodbye, it's see you later.

Cathy was always one to be upbeat and funny even when she went through the hardest times. When we were all in high school all of us girls learned from each other and leaned on each other. Cathy taught me to be more confident and get past myself and over my shyness. She was always such a strong young lady. But on the inside she was really very sweet and sincere. Her sense of humor was legendary. It rubbed off on all of us and her laughter will be remembered often. I am saddened that I will no longer see Cathy around Bourne Middle School. My heartfelt sympathies to her family.

I am so very sorry to hear of Cathy's untimely passing. I have many fond memories of her in high school. Her rough and tough reputaion melted away as I got to know her and what a happy, fun and sweet person she really was. I can still hear her contagious laugh as she did so often during those years. My heart goes out to her family. She will be missed.

Dear John, Ian, Clayton and the Royer family
Words can not express how sad I am about losing Cathy at such a young age.  Cathy and I were friends since 4th grade and we shared so many fun times together through High School, College and into our early twenties.  I laugh just thinking about all the crazy stunts we got away with during High School.  Swimming in the Royer's neighbor's pool in the middle of the night.  Collecting all the For Sale signs and Political signs from people's yards and putting them all over the front lawn of Manchester High School.  Getting pulled over by the police with dozens of those signs in our car, and the occifer (as Cathy called them) told us to return them back where we got them.  Painting the word "SLOTHS" (our High School group nickname) on streets in the middle of the night.  Going to rock concerts at Blossom Music Center. Singing "Tragedy" at the top of her lungs with the other "Sloths" at HS dances.  I could go on and on.  Cathy loved OSU and I always think of her when Hang On Sloopy is played...the Sloths sang that song in the High School Talent Show dressed as punk rockers.  Cathy and I played clarinet in the concert band together and had so much fun in marching band at band camp and on many band trips.  It is poetic justice that she became a substitute teacher...she was torture for our substitute teachers in HS.  I remember one instance where she and others were hanging from the rafters in a classroom with a substitute teacher.  After High School we had many fun times visiting each other at our colleges.  After college Cathy was in the military based in England, I was working in Germany and we spent time together having mischievous adventures in London, Germany and England.  She was always so much fun to be with...always a smile on her face and and seeking the next adventure around the corner.  But the happiest time in her life was when she married John and had her two sons, Ian and Clayton, whom she loved very much.  She was so proud of both her sons and she was a great mom to them.  I know that her fun loving spirit will live on in Clayton and Ian and I know that she is up in heaven taking care of her Mom and Dad and probably swinging from the rafters.  Rest in peace Cathy.  I will never have another friend as unique and special as you.

Cathy could always put a smile on anyones face. We met at church some time during our elementay school years and became friends.  She could make you laugh at just about anything. Our group was called "sloths" which was a term of endearment to us and annoying for others, but thats the way we wanted it back then as our sense of humor was off kilter.  Cathy always had the most genuine of hearts, sincerest smile, and inquisitive mind. We laughed our way through high school and then some in college and years later in marriage and child rearing. I am struck by disbelief and a tremendous sense of loss with the news of Cathy's passing.  We are praying for you as you endure this incredible torment.  
My lasting memory is of her sitting by the campfire with a glass of sherry, a large smile on her face, enjoying her family.  She always had a grin that made you wonder if she knew something that no one else did- maybe a joke none of us would understand.  The fact that she was so full of life makes it even harder to cope with the idea that she is no longer with us.
There is a hole in all of our hearts and a hole in the world that we will never fully recover from.  We were all so blessed to know her and call her "mom, honey, sister, Aunt Cathy".

Cathy was and will always be a kind, gentle soul, who had a cheerful greeting and smile for every person she met, young or old. She made you feel as if you had known each other for years, even though in my case, it was just a few months. You knew right away how important her family was, from her husband and boys to her siblings and friends.  Cathy brought Ian and Clayton to meet me at my job at Bass, and sat with us at lunch at Wing school. She shared special moments from her own childhood as well as stories of her boys which filled her with pride and joy. My heart and prayers are with you all.
