Barbara Anne Newell

Barbara Anne (O’Neil) Newell, of East Falmouth, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, surrounded by her loved ones. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph S. Newell, III.

Born in Boston, MA, Barbara was the daughter of the late Timothy and Elizabeth (Corcoran) O’Neil. She was a proud graduate of Arch Bishop Williams High School and went on to earn her associate’s degree from Cape Cod Community College.

Barbara dedicated over 20 years of service as an administrative assistant at NOAA Fisheries, where she made lasting contributions and friendships. In addition to her professional life, Barbara was deeply involved in her community. She coached her children's sports teams throughout Bourne and later volunteered in various capacities across Falmouth during her retirement.

Barbara was an active member of the Falmouth Theater Guild, where she embraced her love for the arts. She also enjoyed tending to her garden and cherished time spent with her grandchildren.

Barbara leaves behind her daughter, Elizabeth Symolon of Boston, MA, and her son, Christopher Newell, and his wife Katherine of North Carolina. She was the loving grandmother to Molly and Benjamin. She is also survived by her siblings: Charles O’Neil of Florida, Virginia O’Neil of Bourne, MA, and Francis O’Neil of North Falmouth, MA.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, October 21, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Falmouth Service Center in Barbara’s memory.
